Are you planning for success this year?With the Festive Season over, many small business owners have turned their attention to 2015 business goals.

Are you on track to meet your business goals?

To stay competitive it’s important to plan ahead, explore new opportunities and markets but it all begins with understanding where you are right now.   Now is the perfect time to revisit your marketing plan – review it and change as necessary.

Are you meeting your revenue targets?

If not, it’s time to think about why. Are your targets realistic? Is your product or service still relevant?  Are there ways to create new revenue streams?

Is your advertising working? 

The only way to know if your advertising is working is to measure the results.  Don’t be afraid to ask your customers for feedback, tweak your ideas and try again.   Successful advertising doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.  

Do you know what your competitors are offering?

Think about your customers options when it comes to buying your service or product.  Who are they comparing you with?  What products and services do they offer?  What are their hours of trading?  Do those businesses have a website?   They are all your competitors and you need to find a way to differentiate and provide better value or service. 

Do you know what your customers are thinking?

  • Are they happy with your products or service?
  • What other products would they like to see you introduce?
  • How can you improve your customer service?

Why not send out a quick survey and ask them.  This is also a great way of staying top mind with your customers. 

Do you have an online presence?

Even if you don’t, your customers are online. Do you have a website? Is it easy to find through Google and industry directories? Are you on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+,  LinkedIn?

You need to have an online strategy.   Creating an online presence makes it easy for your customers to find you.

    My number one planning tip for success is realistic goal setting. I love to aim high, but be realistic about the number of high reach goals I can take on in a given period. I think focusing on one or two goals at a time is the best way, versus spreading yourself too thin over 10 things you want to accomplish. Great read!
